I bought the truck back in March 2015 at Fort Campbell, KY. I lived all over the country with this truck thereafter: Tennessee, Alabama, New York, and California. I have used this truck to tow my RV while I lived in Alabama and used the truck to tow my Tacoma across the United States when I moved home from Upstate New York to California.The Good:Jay Leno referred to this generation model truck as a "Man's Truck" or "As truck as it gets" on Jay Leno's garage.The truck is Pre Emissions. Even in California. No need to smog. Straight pipe diesel. No Diesel Exhaust Fluid, No EGR, No Nonsense. This is a sweet Diesel Bomber project.... Or cut out the components you want and sell truck for scrap metal. Either way I think I priced the truck where you could go either direction and come out ahead.MPG's in this truck by the way are pretty awesome. 20+ mpg.Mechanical injection, no glow plug design in the 12valve Cummins make this a go to motor for an end of the world vehicle.The legendary 5.9L Cummins turbo diesel engine in this truck runs very well. I did the "Killer Dowel Pin" fix preventatively November, 2015 with a kit from Geno's Garage. I replaced the VE Fuel injection pump with a rebuilt one from NorthEast Diesel Service December, 2015.Tekonsha trailer brake controller included. 7 pin trailering harness installed.I did some work on the Dana 60 Front axel, installing new King Pins back in August, 2015 (227,247 miles).I've replaced all the U-joints in the driveline: (4 wheel drive Axle and Drive shaft, Main drive shaft, centering bearing (February, 2016 228,146 miles))KYB Shock absorbers March, 2015 224,056 miles.Moog Drag Link, Tie rods, Rancho steering stabilizers (September, 2015 (227,690 miles)Rebuilt Starter (Geno's Garage kit) April, 2016 (229,204 miles)New Alternator, Napa Premium plus 120amp, (February, 2018 (229,333 miles))Axel seals, Wheel bearings have all been replaced.New Instate Battery installed February, 2025.The Bad:Getrag 360 Transmission will sometimes get stuck (Cannot shift out of top gear). This has happened to me twice. Possible shifting fork is bent?? Low through 3rd gears shift and work ok. Transmission works best shifting up and down in gear order for some reason.Truck will vibrate seemingly from the rear at 55mph. Slow down or speed up the vibration goes away.Rear Main Seal is leaking some oilNP205 Rear output seal is leakingVampire electrical current. Disconnect battery when not in use.Speedometer has become more intermittent lately. I think there may be short in the wire as the problem seems to be electrical.The Ugly:Rust. There is some rust. I'd classify as nothing crazy. The worst area was in the back by the tow hitch, which I sanded and treated with POR-15, and a few boxes on the cab underside. The chassis is pretty good other than that. There is some rust by the fuel tank on the Chassis.Truck is currently registered in California as "Non operational" as I was planning to rebuild the Transmission, replace the clutch, fly wheel, and replace the rear main seal. This did not happen because I had kids and my priorities have now shifted. I non opt'ed the truck because I got tired of paying insurance and registration on a vehicle that I only use to take things to the dump or grab a load of rock or mulch etc.Bonus:Bonus:I'm selling the truck with all the extra parts and complete shop manuals that I have on hand.
